"My mission in life is not merely to survive,
but to thrive; and to do so with some passion,
some compassion, some humor and some style."
- Maya Angelou
My journey through the world of design has looked a little more like a nature path that passes through a beautiful forest, crosses a wild river, climbs a steep hill, cuts through a meadow, pauses at a look out point and then continues on into the unknown but exciting new landscapes.
I always dreamed of being an interior designer. Growing up I would move things around, paint my bedroom, hang new art on my walls. I loved color and furniture and architectural history. One of my favorite shows as a kid was "This Old House" with Bob Villa.
I studied architecture and art history in college which provided a great foundation for understanding drawings, theory and different architectural styles. After graduating, I started working for a residential interior designer in LA then moved on to work for a hospitality design firm in the heart of the design district.
Learning a lot at each job, I finally found a firm I could grow with for several years based in West Hollywood. We specialized in high end residential, custom furniture design and specialized hotel projects. I loved it and worked my way up to senior designer.
In searching for a outlet for my own personal creativity I found a "lost wax" jewelry design class at a small studio in Santa Monica. After a few months I could not stop day dreaming about new jewelry pieces and one of a kind designs. I decided to branch out on my own and start my own jewelry business. Every piece of jewelry I sell is original, handmade and produced in small batches or one of a kind.
After moving to Ojai and starting a family, life shifted. I took a break from working to be with our babies but my creative energy did not want to stop for long. I fell back in love with interior design after remodeling our first home and have started studying landscape design to be able to offer my clients even more.
While my professional path has detoured and explored; all of my experiences have given me the opportunity to study and master design elements such as balance, proportion, scale, texture, functionality, intricate details and color combinations. My design process is intuitive and I work with intention and precision. Whether its a bathroom remodel, new paint colors, re-purposing furniture or a one of a kind piece of jewelry the most important thing to me is a happy client who has found a way to express their own creativity through working together.
