Artist Bio & Inspiration
Megan Rider Jewelry is a handmade architecturally inspired jewelry line based out of Ojai, California; a small artistic community in Southern California. Each piece and all textures are carefully hand sculpted in wax then cast in silver, brass or 14K gold. This ancient “lost wax” jewelry designing technique allows for organic, abstract work that is unique and one of a kind. Duplicates are created in limited quantities. All materials are produced or sourced in Los Angeles.
Before discovering her passion for jewelry and starting her own line in 2013, Megan worked in high end interior design in Los Angeles for over a decade. Spending her weekends and evenings trying new creative outlets like oil painting and drawing classes led her to a lost wax jewelry class at a little studio in Santa Monica. She knew designing jewelry was the next step in her career when she found herself sketching and photographing ideas throughout her day. Interior design and architectural elements such as window designs, tile and fabric patterns, metal work and historical details started catching her attention as possible jewelry pieces. All of these experiences trained Megan’s eye for intricate details, natural textures, balanced proportions and complimentary colors that now define her jewelry line aesthetic.
Studying architecture and art history in college showed Megan how history, religion, politics, cultural values, social status and person style can be expressed through art and architecture. Similar to interior and architectural design, jewelry is an everyday and applied form of art. Megan considers jewelry to be a beautiful opportunity to express a little bit about who we are and what we value. Each piece has been carefully crafted with attention to detail, function, quality and meaning. Please enjoy shopping for something you love or for a thoughtful gift.
